NRC Women's Book Group

The NRC Women’s Book Group was formed in September 2000 and meets monthly in the home of one of our members to share Christian fellowship and our love of books. Unlike other book groups, we each read what we like and share our readings with our reading circle when we meet. This often leads to interesting conversations about topics we might otherwise never broach. We are also introduced to books we might otherwise never find, nor ever consider reading without hearing about it from another group member.

During the summer months we often take a ‘field trip’ to some interesting location, mostly featuring a writer or a topic from one of our books. We have, for example, visited The Mount, home of American author Edith Wharton in Lenox, Massachusetts; Steepletop, home of American poet Edna St. Vincent Millay in Austerlitz, NY; and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Troy to see the famous Tiffany interior including many amazing stained glass windows. The interest in Tiffany stemmed from the Susan Vreeland book, “Clara and Mr. Tiffany.” Other trips have included a boat tour on the Mohawk River and lunch at an interesting location.  Our field trips are often joined by “Friends of the Book Group” who don’t otherwise attend our reading sessions.
