As was preached this past Sunday, the parable of the prodigal son is powerful with characters that we can readily identify with. We bring our own emotions into the story because we know what it is like to be the parent, the older sibling, or the younger sibling. We also know what it is like to love someone so deeply that you’ll do anything for them. We know how it feels to think we’ve been slighted or taken for granted. We are intimately aware of how we have let others down and shame that comes along with that.
Read Luke 15:11-32 and imagine yourself in the story…what are you feeling? what are you seeing? who do you connect with?
Now, take your imagination a bit further and wonder what happens beyond the parable. Does the older brother attend the party? Does he leave, never speaking to his family again? Does the younger brother stick with his family for the long haul? What else happens in your imagination? What might God be speaking to you through your story making?
