Salvation Army Soup Kitchen

Posted on

The Salvation Army Soup Kitchen is a volunteer opportunity that requires personnel for 3 stages – shopping for food, initial preparation of food (usually done at NRC), and serving the food at the Salvation Army building in Schenectady. At the Salvation Army, volunteers make sure the hall is set, utensils are wrapped and condiments are in place. In the kitchen, the food is cooked, juice is poured, fruit cups are filled, coffee is made, plates are made available and dessert either plated or bagged. Clean up is done at the end of the event often with the help of the Salvation Army crew.

To date, NRC is responsible for the following soup kitchen dates:  October 15, 2015, November 19, 2015, February 25, 2016, April 21, 2016 and June 16, 2016. A sign-up sheet for the event is located in the back of church prior to the event or call the church for more information.

On May 25th, approximately 188 people were served.

Thanks to the following volunteers who shopped, cooked, set-up, served, and cleaned up:, Mary Park-Flanders, Dorilee Male, Karen Moak, Peter Ford, Thelma Ford, Pat Nickel, Sharon Thompson and Barbara Valenti.
